VOC and Chemical Air Pollution
Major primary chemical pollutants produced by human activity include:
Sulfur Oxides (SOx)
Sulfur oxides, especially sulfur dioxide, a chemical compound
with the formula SO2. SO2 is produced by volcanoes and in various industrial
processes. Since coal and petroleum often contain sulfur compounds,
their combustion generates sulfur dioxide. Further oxidation of SO2,
usually in the presence of a catalyst such as NO2, forms H2SO4, and
thus acid rain. This is one of the causes for concern over the environmental
impact of the use of these fuels as power sources.
Nitrogen Oxides (NOx)
Nitrogen Oxides, especially nitrogen
dioxide, are emitted from high temperature combustion. Can be seen
as the brown haze dome above or plume downwind
of cities. Nitrogen dioxide is the chemical compound with the formula
NO2. It is one of the several nitrogen oxides. This reddish-brown toxic
gas has a characteristic sharp, biting odor. NO2 is one of the most
prominent air pollutants.
Carbon Monoxide
Carbon Monoxide
is a colourless, odourless, non-irritating but very poisonous gas.
It is a product by incomplete combustion of fuel such as natural gas,
coal or wood inside the house. Vehicular exhaust is a major source of
carbon monoxide outside the house.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC)
VOCs are an important outdoor air pollutant.
In this field they are often divided into the separate categories
of methane (CH4) and non-methane (NMVOCs). Methane is an extremely
efficient greenhouse gas which contributes to enhanced global warming.
Other hydrocarbon VOCs are also significant greenhouse gases via
their role in creating ozone and in prolonging the life of methane
in the atmosphere, although the effect varies depending on local
air quality. Within the NMVOCs, the aromatic compounds benzene, toluene
and xylene are suspected carcinogens and may lead to leukemia through
prolonged exposure. 1,3-butadiene is another dangerous compound which
is often associated with industrial uses.
Inside the house, VOCs are invisible gases which are emitted from paints,
adhesives, carpeting, wall coverings, new furniture, building materials,
solvents, cleaning solutions, copy machines and laser printers. Studies
using experimental chambers have shown that VOCs can cause irritation
of the respiratory system in humans and animals.
Controlled experiments with people who suffer from Sick Building Syndrome
confirm that VOC exposure can cause headache, fatigue and difficulty
concentrating. Dozens of VOCs have been identified in residential air.
Some of the VOCs found in indoor air, such as benzene derivatives, may
promote cancer in humans. Concern over the safety of cleaning solutions
and VOCs has created a demand for less toxic alternatives.
We offer two air purifier brands that are proven to be effective at
removing chemicals and VOCs:
Airpura Commercial HEPA and Carbon Air Cleaners
Airpura
is a completely new air cleaner with all the design improvements lacking in
other similar technology systems. Airpura design principles include a simplified
unobstructed air flow for quieter more efficient performance and reduced noise.
The prefilter can be vacuumed through the mesh for easy monthly maintenance,
then replaced every 12 months. Two special microbial (bacteria and viruses)
suppressing filters help to protect the hefty 18 or 26 pound carbon bed. Felt
gaskets are used to seal the filter chamber, eliminating rubber seal off
gassing. The metal capped HEPA filter removes the possibility of any
plastic vapors from non-metal caps.
Airpura uses a powerful, variable speed integrated fan/motor, letting you
choose the rate you clean your air from super quiet to premium power filtering
with 560 CFM capacity. With Airpura's effective pressure sealed filter chamber,
all air is filtered; NO particles or gases escape. Other systems allow
leakage and can't achieve the claimed 99.97% HEPA efficiency. And, Airpura
offers the cleanest air, using superior quality true HEPA and activated carbon
(special carbon blends are available) with optional UV sterilization to deliver
truly clean air for home, office and industrial applications. Airpura is available
in eight
models and three colors: Cream, white and black. more

Air Oasis Breakthrough UV Air Sanitizer Technology!
No
air purifier on the market can compete in effectiveness when compared to the
Air Oasis patent-pending Nano Nickel HCT photocatalytic oxidation technology. Other
oxidation brands use only titanium dioxide (TiO2) as a catalyst,
the cheapest, most available, catalyst metal on the market. Air Oasis contains
five rare catalyst metals and nano size metals to increase the kinetic rate
of reaction. Plus, Air Oasis UV lamps utilize a proprietary long life 3-year
coating, allowing them to outlast any UV lamp on the market.
Air Oasis technology is proven effective against MRSA and may be an answer
for many more of today's "Super Bugs", such as Swine Flu. Studies
conducted by West Texas A&M University at BSA Hospital confirm that
Air Oasis not only purifies your air,
but sanitizes surfaces. The study measured reductions in methicillin resistant
Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) on surfaces. The study also measured a 75%
reduction in other microbes and fungus in only 8 hours of use. Other studies
show an almost complete eradication over longer periods of exposure to the
Air Oasis oxidation technology. Current ongoing
studies are aimed at proving reductions in VOC and odors. more
